[NFL 2011 Preseason Week 2] – Cal Alumni Position Battles

Continuing on the thread as week 3 just started. I’m going through our alumni are who currently fighting to make the 53 man roster or for a starting position.

Andre Carter fights through the Tampa Bay offensive line in a week 2 preseason game

Andre Carter wants to be part of a potentially special Patriot’s defensive line though in his belief, he hasn’t played to his potential in the preseason. Carter believes a move back to his natural DE position  could again lead to a double digit sack season.

Brian de la Puente is currently on the bubble to make the New Orleans Saints’ roster but has recovered well after a rough preseason start against the San Francisco 49ers.

Donovan Edwards works on conditioning during 49ers practice while sporting a pair of Cal shorts

Donovan Edwards has progressed from his initial positioning on the 49ers’ 3rd team to the 2nd team and is now potentially in the mix to make the 53 man roster though he didn’t get into the game until the final 5 plays against the Raiders.

Justin Forsett and Marshawn Lynch hope to be Seattle’s thunder and lightning for the coming year. Forsett is battling Leon Washington for the backup running back position behind Beast Mode.

Jeremy Ross had big aspirations prior to week 2’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and didn’t disappoint with a couple of solid punt returns. One Boston writer feels Ross can be a good spark to the Patriots’ special teams during the year.

Lavelle Hawkins is currently battling Justin Gage for the #3 wide receiver position behind Kenny Britt and Nate Washington on the Tennessee Titans. One columnist says he did well to stand out this past week but another writer from MusicCityMiracles thinks less of the young receiving core of the Titans.
